Our staff is always divided when it comes to their favorite summer flowers for our accounts. Because of the numerous choices, we perform a thorough walkthrough before summer plantings taking flower placement, shade, sun and water needs into consideration before recommending and installing the perfect variety. This care and expertise ensures our buildings look spectacular all summer long.
We took an internal poll and the following made our top five favorites (some of our staff aren’t in it just for the visual impact; ease of care, bloom length and drought tolerance are important too).
Wax Begonia
These are excellent bedding plants grown as an annual. Begonias are free-flowering plants that require little to no deadheading throughout the season. They do great in partial shade or indirect bright light and come in red, pink and white.
Impatient
These make fantastic container or bedding plants. They love filtered light and fast-draining, rich soil. With colors ranging from bright orange to pure white, what’s not to love?
Coneflower
This dependable perennial blooms early to late summer and all the way through early fall. Its dark green leaves set off a variety of bloom colors. They like full sun and dry heat and are irresistible to butterflies and birds.
Salvia
Belonging to a large family, this showstopper blooms in late spring to early fall. Most popular in violet blue, it can also be available in white and pink. It thrives in full sun to part shade in moist, well-drained soil.
Verbena
Drought tolerant and fast growing, verbena is known for its exceptionally long bloom period. Deadheading once or twice will revive flowering. Several forms are available, and it comes in a variety of colors from peach to purple.
